An Assessor is an individual or entity responsible for assigning a value to a property for purposes of property tax collections. In Texas, the assessor is a county function and each county has an appraisal district. The appraisal district will assign a value as of January 1st of each calendar year and notices of the current year assessed value are usually sent to property owners in the spring.
